CONFIRMED: Kevin Hart Hosting 2012 MTV VMAs

Comedian Kevin Hart is apparently in final negotiations to host the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

Sources close to the 32-year-old comic confirm the rumor originally reported by HumorMillMag.com that Hart’s deal to host the award show “is pretty much done.” AlwaysAList.com was told that MTV doesn’t plan to formally announce Hart as host “until sometime next week.”

The “Think Like a Man” star appeared on the 2011 VMA telecast, opening the show with a monologue and introducing the first set of presenters. There was no actual show host that year. Comedienne Chelsea Handler of E!’s “Chelsea Lately” hosted the VMA’s in 2010.

Hart, fresh off his main stage performance at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, is no stranger to hosting award shows. The Philly-bred funnyman was host of the 2011 BET Awards, which was the award show’s second-highest rated broadcast ever.

Rihanna and Drake lead this year’s nominations with five a piece, including Video of the Year. Katy Perry landed four nods, while Frank Ocean, Beyonce, M.I.A., Coldplay and The Throne’s Jay-Z and Kanye West all walked away with three.

The VMA’s will take place on September 6 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
