Raw Deal: Chris Rock Executive Producing New Comedy Show

Comedian Chris Rock is executive producing a new sketch comedy pilot for Comedy Central starring young comic Deshawn Raw.

The show, “D-Raw,” will be comprised of sketches featuring Raw and his diverse group of friends and their experiences as they make fun of themselves and their lives in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

The 21-year-old comedian, who describes himself as “just a new comedian trying to make it out the hood with the team so we don’t end up statistics,” became a YouTube with his Rap Battle videos. The first video in his series has garnered 13.5 million viewers. Another video, Rap Battle Pt. 4, actually features Rock and more than 2.9 million hits.

Raw will executive produce “D-Raw” along with Rock.

In addition to the “D-Raw” pilot, Rock is also executive producer of FX’s upcoming weekly late-night series “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell.” The series, starring comedian W. Kamau Bell, will dissect a multitude of topics including politics, pop culture, race, religion, and the media.

The 30-minute series will be shot in New York City and premieres on Aug. 9.
