“The View” moderator Whoopi Goldberg has signed on to star in a new comedy pilot for ABC called “Delores & Jermaine.”
The EGOT-winning comedienne—she’s one of 12 entertainers who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award—will star opposite comedian Jermaine Fowler on the series.
The sitcom is a multi-camera show based on Fowler’s life. She series is described as an “Odd Couple” for the new generation, as Fowler stars as a millennial with big ideas, but very little drive, who moves in with his estranged grandmother (Goldberg), a strict, football-loving, former D.C. cop who needs his youthful enthusiasm in her life as much as he needs her old-school parenting.
The show will shoot in New York City and work around Goldberg’s “The View” schedule. She and her business partner Tom Leonardis will also serve as executive producers on the comedy.
Though she has recently starred in movies like “A Day Late and a Dollar Short” and guest-starred on TV series like “Glee,” “The Middle,” “Suburgatory” and “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland;” this would be Goldberg’s first sitcom in over a decade.
