Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph is currently guest starring on the second season of NBC’s Broadway drama, “Smash.”
Ralph plays a character named Cynthia – mother of Jennifer Hudson’s character Veronica Moore – on the musical-based drama.
“I am thrilled to be working on ‘Smash,’ and in particular, with the fabulous diva Jennifer Hudson,” the actress told AlwaysAList.com.
It was announced last summer that Hudson had signed on for a multi-episode arc on “Smash.”

In 2007, Hudson won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Effie White in the film adaptation of “Dreamgirls.”
“Whoever thought that two ‘Dreamgirls’ would unite as mother and daughter on TV? Dreams do come true!” said Ralph.
Ralph, who made her debut on “Smash” on the Feb. 26 episode, stars next in the Nick at Nite sitcom “Instant Mom,” opposite Tia Mowry and Michael Boatman.
