A-List Rides: Miata Magic In The 2018 Mazda MX-5

So it is 11:50am ET and I’m in Starbucks near my house, about 8 miles and a 25 minute ride in moderate traffic from the CNN building in downtown Washington, DC. Something told me to check the email for my appearance on CNN’s sister channel HLN again. Once I did, I realized that despite me thinking I was live on TV at 12:45pm ET; I was scheduled to be live at 12:30pm ET.

So I panicked! I grabbed my green tea with lemonade and the low fat turkey bacon breakfast sandwich and bolted through the door. I jumped in the 2018 Mazda MX-5 (affectionately called the Mazda Miata) and said a prayer to God that He would keep the police away as I sped downtown. Thank God He did!

I zoomed downtown in a manner that I shouldn’t probably mention in this story, but since we’re talking about a sports car I thought I’d tell the truth. The MX-5 gripped the road and the handling was perfection. Effortlessly I shifted gears and maneuvered trying to make sure I didn’t miss this live TV appearance.

When I got downtown, it was 12:14pm ET. Not sure how I made that 25-minute trek in 14 minutes, but I did thanks to the Mazda MX-5. I parked by CNN, dashed into the building, ran through makeup and was in the chair just in time for the topic I was doing that day.

Suffice to say, this sports car – ranked no. 1 by U.S. News & World Reports in Sports Cars and Convertibles – aided in my swift drive into the city. Its athletic handling made me feel comfortable despite its small size and clearly, this car is fast.

The retractable soft-top convertible model I drove is a newer offering for the 2018 model. Mazda is offering a variety of colors and trims for MX-5 as well. There’s also a 7.0-inch infotainment display with rotary controller, HD radio compatibility, and a proximity key with push-button start with every trim.

This car is stylish, has modern features and really is what you desire in a sports car. It’s no every day vehicle, as the trunk space is very small. But you’re not getting this car for the cargo room anyway.

And it boasts great gas mileage, offering 26 miles per hour in the city and 35 miles on the highway.

Spin Control: High performance, great gas mileage, wonderful reviews and auto rankings and a starting price of $25,295, the Mazda MX-5 is a sports car worth treating yourself to.
