Fuel Focused: Super Savings In 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Hybrids have become ubiquitous with Toyota because of the success the automotive manufacturer has had with the Toyota Prius.

But for the first time I was spending time in a Toyota Camry Hybrid and this newly redesigned 2018 model exceeded all expectations.

The second day of having the Toyota Camry Hybrid I drove my brother and his girlfriend from Northern Virginia to Baltimore so they could fly out of BWI Airport. That Saturday afternoon drive included some traffic and a major detour, but using the car’s navigation system and adjusting to the congested driving conditions gave me a perspective of this car that those who would be commuting to work in a major city would face.

Do to the increased trunk space in the 2018 model of Toyota Camry Hybrid, there was more than enough cargo room for their two large bags and one small carry-on. In this model year of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, the battery has been moved from the trunk area and is now located under the rear seat.

Unlike some Hybrids, the Camry didn’t have that lag you often expect. This car was powerful and accelerated effortless with a slight tap of the gas.

My brother’s girlfriend said the backseat was extremely comfortable and the car’s solid drive didn’t make her woozy or give her motion sickness.

And despite driving 95 miles in total round trip to the airport, the gas gage never moved from full.

I would end up driving another 66 miles to Dulles airport when they returned and countless miles moving and shaking throughout downtown D.C. and Maryland. But after seven days in this car, it was still just a little under a half tank when Toyota came to pick it up.

Suffice to say, the fuel economy on this vehicle is worth the cost of the vehicle alone. You’re actually getting 44 to 51 miles per gallon in the city, and an epic 47 to 53 miles per gallon on the highway.

Only downside to this vehicle is that it does not offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, it still has a variety of other standard and available features, including lots of driver assistance technology.

Spin Control: The redesigned 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid is one of the best hybrid choices in its size on the market and should certainly be on your list of cars to check out.
