Scandal: ABC Orders More Episodes

Good news for ABC’s hit drama “Scandal.” The Shonda Rhimes-produced series just received a full-season order from ABC.

The show, which stars Kerry Washington as Washington, DC public relations guru Olivia Pope, will see its sophomore season grow from its original 13 episode order to a full season of 22 shows. In television terms, ABC has “ordered the back nine.”

The political-themed drama premiered last spring as a mid-season replacement and has developed a loyal following of viewers on Thursday nights. The show continues to grow in both its overall audience and key demographics.

“Scandal” currently has a season-long story arc about the character Quinn Perkins, played by Katie Lowes, and her real identity.

The drama also stars Columbus Short, Darby Stanchfield, Guillermo Díaz, Tony Goldwyn, Jeff Perry, Joshua Malina and Bellamy Young.

The show is loosely based off of the life of public relations powerhouse Judy Smith, a crisis management specialist who was the former deputy press secretary for President George H. W. Bush and went on to facilitate strategic campaigns for people ranging from NFL star Michael Vick to White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
