TV One is gearing up for the August 20 debut of its new reality series, “R&B Divas.”
The Atlanta-based show stars five R&B singers Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Keke Wyatt, Syleena Johnson and Monifah.
“R&B Divas” is an eight-episode, one-hour series that will follow the singers’ friendship, personal challenges and professional obstacles. Additionally, the quintet comes together to collaborate on a charity CD inspired by the late Whitney Houston that will donate proceeds from the album will benefit the Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in East Orange, New Jersey.
Gilbert, a former lead singer for Michael Jackson’s R&B trio Brownstone, and Evans, also serve as co-executive producers of the series.
Though the majority of “R&B Divas” was set in Atlanta, the show also shot scenes in Washington, D.C., New York and Los Angeles. The show’s season finale was filmed during the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, where the ladies performed a tribute to recently deceased music artists as prelude to Chaka Khan’s headlining performance on the main stage.
