The Rock: Wins Title In Wrestling Return
After a 10-year hiatus, The Rock has returned to wrestling. The wrestling star won the WWE Championship for an eighth time at the “Royal Rumble” in in Phoenix, Arizona.
The wrestling veteran, who first returned to World Wrestling Entertainment in February 2011 to announce that he would serve as host of WrestleMania XXVII, defeated wrestler C.M. Punk in a match at the WWE pay-per-view in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,103 at the US Airways Arena.
The Rock will now go on to defend his WWE title against wresting superstar John Cena at WrestleMania XXIX on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at MetLife Stadium.
The 40-year-old superstar, who had his mom in the audience during his match at the “Royal Rumble,” is the son WWE Hall of Famer, wrestler Rocky Johnson.
In recent years The Rock had focused on being a Hollywood actor. Using his real name, Dwayne Johnson, the grappler has starred in films like “The Scorpion King,” “The Rundown,” “Be Cool” and “Gridiron Gang,” among others.
The biracial talent – he’s half black and half Samoan – has at least four films being released later this year including “Pain & Gain,” “The Fast and the Furious 6,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Empire State.”
