Broadway Bound: Wendy Williams Joining “Chicago”

Talk show host Wendy Williams will make her Broadway stage debut this summer in the long-running, Tony Award-winning musical “Chicago.”

Williams will take over the role of Matron “Mama” Morton in “Chicago” at the Ambassador Theatre for a seven week run starting in June.

“I can’t wait to sing and dance while still doing the talk show,” Williams announced, during Monday’s broadcast of her show. “I can’t believe they asked me to do it.”

Matron “Mama” Morton was portrayed in the hit film version of “Chicago” by Queen Latifah. R&B star Angie Stone,  Tony Award winner Jennifer Holiday, “Grey’s Anatomy” star Chandra Wilson and “Amen” star Roz Ryan have also played the role in the Broadway show.
