Early Release: Ja Rule Home From Prison
Rapper Ja Rule is out of prison.
The 37-year-old entertainer was released from prison on Tuesday morning after serving out his sentences for attempted illegal gun possession and tax evasion.
The New York-bred hip-hop star (real name Jeffrey Atkins) was serving his time in Ray Brook Federal Prison.
Apparently his wife picked him up around 10am and took the rapper home where he’ll be on house arrest until July 28.
In 2010, Ja Rule was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The weapon issue stemmed from a 2007 situation where authorities found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his vehicle. The rapper turned himself in to cops in June 2011.
The Murder Inc. rapper was also hit with a 28 month sentence in prison for tax evasion. Ja Rule failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million in earnings from 2004 to 2006. He served his tax evasion sentence concurrently with his gun possession sentence.
Ja Rule was scheduled to be released in July. His release today was almost two months early.
