Renewed: “Scandal” Gets Third Season
The show, which stars Kerry Washington as Washington, DC public relations guru Olivia Pope, averaged about 7.4 million viewers on Thursday nights.
The political-themed drama premiered last spring as a mid-season replacement with just seven episodes. The show developed a loyal following of viewers and social media helped grow its audience tremendously.
The drama also stars Columbus Short, Darby Stanchfield, Guillermo Díaz, Tony Goldwyn, Jeff Perry, Joshua Malina, Katie Lowes, and Bellamy Young. Many of the cast members participate in weekly online chats and social media discussions after the East Coast airing of the show.
“Scandal” is loosely based off of the life of public relations powerhouse Judy Smith, a crisis management specialist who was the former deputy press secretary for President George H. W. Bush and went on to facilitate strategic campaigns for people ranging from NFL star Michael Vick to “The View” co-host Star Jones and White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
