Tanya Hart: Media Maven Talks Black Music Month & Recent Recognition
Veteran TV and radio personality Tanya Hart has been awarded for a fifth consecutive year with the 2013 Los Angeles Award in the Communications Specialization category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).
Hart’s company, Tanya Hart Communications was recognized recently by USCA as part of their “Best of Local Business” Award Program. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. Nationwide, only 1 in 1000 (less than one-tenth of 1%) 2013 Award recipients qualified as five-time Award Winners.

Now after receiving this five times, I know we have done something right! It is also a testament to the American spirit that this company tries to promote. No matter how big or small if you do a good job, good things will always come back to you. I am truly honored and humbled at receiving the 2013 Los Angeles Award for Communications Specialization from the U.S. Commerce Association”
In addition to hosting her nationally syndicated radio segment “Hollywood Live with Tanya Hart” on more than 300 stations for American Urban Radio Networks (AURN), Hart has also become a talk radio host on Clear Channel’s KTLK AM 1150 in Los Angeles.
“Having been chosen to be one of the rotating hosts on KTLK AM 1150 was really one of the highlights of this past year. Talk Radio has generally been a man’s game, so being a woman and doing this format is very interesting and challenging. Because I have such an extensive background in news it made it a bit easier. More importantly, I was tapped because I have an opinion on many of the issues of the day. I want to continue to do more of this and really make my show a destination spot for great dialogue,” she said.
[pullquote_left]Favorite Current Artists: Miguel & Rick Ross[/pullquote_left]Tanya Hart Communications recently partnered with AURN, The Urban Buzz buzz.com, and Rick Dees Entertainment to produce a multimedia special called “A Celebration of Black Music” featuring some of the biggest names in Black Music. June is recognized as Black Music Month and Black Music continues to be one of America’s biggest exports.
“We should recognize Black Music every month since not a day goes by when you don’t listen to one of your favorite songs somewhere,” reminded Hart. “It is important because historically, and it continues as we speak, when we do our own music it gets devalued for a variety of reasons. When our music is used by other nationalities in other venues it becomes a revenue stream for everyone but our folks who created it. We can’t let that continue! So as radio and record people we need to make sure our artist continue to get the promotion they need to sell the product like everyone else.”
[pullquote_right]Artist Who Should Be Bigger: Miri Ben- Ari[/pullquote_right]Hart was one of the first talk show hosts on Black Entertainment Television (BET), and an interview she conducted with Tupac for the network is featured in Paramount’s Oscar-nominated documentary feature film, “Tupac: Resurrection.”
In addition to her current work in radio, the Hollywood resident has become a regular guest on CNN’s “Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin.”
