Queen Latifah apparently has a hit on her hands with her new daytime talk show, “The Queen Latifah Show.”
The show, produced by Sony Pictures Television, generated a 1.7 million household rating for its debut on Monday. That number remained strong despite being preempted in markets in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia where local news stations covered the DC Navy Yard shooting instead.
The premiere of “The Queen Latifah Show” comes in just shy of the debut of “Katie” last year, which debuted with a 2.0 rating.
The Grammy-winning entertainer had John Travolta and Willow Smith on her Monday debut. Willow’s dad Will Smith was a guest on Tuesday. Will along with wife Jada Pinkett Smith also serve as executive producers on the show.
Latifah’s show set was designed by Lenny Kravitz. The 43-year-old Oscar nominee has nicknamed her studio set “The Big Sexy.”
This is Latifah’s second daytime talk show. She previously hosted a show produced by Warner Bros. from 1999 to 2001.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Latifah disclosed that the subject matter on her previous talk show got “too heavy.”
