A-List Rides: 2013 Mazda3 Grand Touring
After several days of driving the Mazda Mazda3 Grand Touring four-door vehicle, I decided to take a few friends and head out to the Annapolis, Maryland for brunch at the amazing restaurant, Miss Shirley’s. Having three friends ride along in this vehicle, listen to music and have conversation would allow me to get some additional perspective on just how good this vehicle was. Well, very much like Mikey in the Life cereal commercials, they liked it, they really liked it.
We drove from Washington, DC to Annapolis on a sunny Saturday afternoon. My iPod was connected to the Mazda 3’s USB plug and played my “Grown & Sexy” playlist. My friends sang along to the music, as the car has a solid sound system with its 10-speaker BOSE audio system.
This is a premium compact car. Despite being a small sedan, the Mazda3 Grand Touring model features many technology offerings and the luxury of a vehicle much larger than it. Mazda3 has advanced keyless entry and start, Bluetooth for safe cell phone usage and music streaming, HD radio and satellite radio.
My friends were also impressed by how roomy this small-sized sedan was. The trunk also provided enough cargo space for several pieces of luggage or a large grocery shopping outing.
The vehicle had a stern, yet smooth drive. Despite its compact size, it felt safe on the highway amid the big trucks and larger vehicles. I loved that it offers the blind spot monitoring as one of its safety options.
This Mazda3 packs enough punch, offering Powertrain choices that vary from a 148-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and a five-speed manual or automatic transmission, to a 167-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.
The Mazda3 features the SKYACTIV technology, which focuses on improving fuel-efficiency. It works well, as you get 27 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. After a 40 minute drive from DC to Annapolis, the gas needle barely moved a quarter of a tank.
Spin Control: Its a cool compact car that is great to drive and easy on the eyes. For a price tag around $23,000, its a solid vehicle for affordable price.
