Oprah Winfrey: Readying Her Broadway Debut?

Is entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey ready to make her Broadway debut?

There’s buzz out of New York City that the talk show icon and network owner is in talks with producers to star in the revival of the dramatic play, “Night, Mother.”

Winfrey would star opposite five-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald in the production about suicide that would be directed by George C. Wolfe.

The planned revival of “Night, Mother” would run during the 2015-2016 Broadway season.

The show is produced by Broadway producer Scott Sanders. Apparently, Winfrey and McDonald have already read the play together at Sanders’ apartment.

“Night, Mother” debuted on Broadway in 1983 and earned Marsha Norman a Pulitzer Prize for drama. The show had a short-lived 2004 revival featuring Brenda Blethyn and Edie Falco in 2004.

Despite having never acted on Broadway, Winfrey was a presenting producer on the 2005 Broadway production of “The Color Purple.”
