Perfect Pairing: Viola Davis Starring In Shonda Rhimes Pilot

It could very well be a match made in heaven!  “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes has tapped Academy Award-nominated actress Viola Davis to star in her upcoming ABC pilot, “How to Get Away With Murder.”

This will be Rhimes’ second TV drama starring a Black woman. Rhimes is the creator and executive producer of “Scandal,” which stars Kerry Washington.

The drama, produced for ABC by her Shondaland production company, is a legal thriller that focuses on ambitious law students and their mysterious criminal defense professor. Things start to go awry when both students and teacher become entangled in a murder plot that could cause drastic ramifications to their university and alter the course of each of their lives.

Davis, who has earned Oscar nominations for her roles in both “The Help” and “Doubt,” will play the educator, Professor Annalise Dewitt on the drama.

Peter Nowalk (“Grey’s Anatomy”) will write the script for the pilot and will also executive produce the drama alongside Rhimes.  In addition to creating and executive producing “Scandal,” Rhimes is responsible for both “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice.”

Davis’ last two TV include 2010’s “United States of Tara” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” where she recurred from 2003 to 2008.
