Bill O’Reilly: Height Of Hypocrisy With Beyoncé Backlash
Conservative Fox News host Bill O’Reilly has taken issue with pop superstar Beyoncé over the sexually-suggestive lyrics and music video for her song, ‘Partition.’
While interviewing hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons about his new book, O’Reilly began his Beyoncé tirade, which had nothing to do with Simmons’ tome. The opinionated political commentator called the music “exploitive garbage that harms impressionable children.”
He went on to question why the former Destiny’s Child singer “glorifies having sex in the back of the limousine” and asked Simmons to make sense of it.
“Teenage girls look up to Beyoncé, particularly girls of color,” O’Reilly said. “She is an idol to them. Why on earth would this woman do that? Why would she do it when she knows the devastation [of] unwanted pregnancies and fractured families?”
I spent a few days pondering over the 64-year-old host labeling Beyoncé’s music as “harmful entertainment” and wondered why he has not had more concern about 21-year-old pop sensation Miley Cyrus.
Beyoncé is a 32-year-old woman who is singing about her sexual relationship with her husband, rapper Jay-Z. This chart-topping music star waited until she got married to have her first child, a daughter named Blue Ivy.
If she chooses as a mature grown woman who has been singing about grown folks issues since the last Destiny’s Child CD, “Destiny Fulfilled,” which came out nearly a decade ago—what’s the issue?
Where’s this pop culture police’s passion about the poison that Cyrus is serving to her teen and young adult audience?
As a pop star just five minutes off the Disney lot, why isn’t O’Reilly outraged that the artist formerly known as Hannah Montana is glorifying the use of illegal drugs in her music, passing out drug paraphernalia at concerts and simulating masturbation in her tour show?
Where is his outrage about how she groped and gyrated on a married man, Robin Thicke on the MTV Video Music Awards and how we now know that performance contributed to his wife, actress Paula Patton leaving him?
Instead, O’Reilly is mad about Beyoncé. Maybe it’s a coincident that she and her husband happen to be friends of President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama or maybe O’Reilly is just doing what Fox News does best, attacking anyone associated with the 44th President of the United States.
O’Reilly specifically criticized Mrs. Carter’s use of a Monica Lewinsky reference in the song ‘Partition,’ but he should be concerned about her ability to reference historical events in her music because he could be next!
Maybe a remix to ‘Partition’ could reference the sexual harassment lawsuit O’Reilly settled with his former producer in 2004. According to the suit, O’Reilly was charged with having spoken to the producer about sexual fantasies, masturbation and vibrators while sometimes seeming to pleasure himself.
One would think with O’Reilly’s past he would actually be the biggest champions of any artist with sexually suggestive lyrics instead of misrepresenting himself as the prime minister of morality!
