The Oprah Winfrey-owned cable channel has ordered a second season of the hit reality series.
“Raising Whitley” chronicles the journey of actress/comedienne Kym Whitley as a first-time mom who adopted her son Joshua after her mentee left her name as his guardian after having him at the hospital.
Whitley is raising her son with the help of her friends—whom she calls “The Village”—while trying to maintain her hectic Hollywood career.
“I’m excited about returning and allowing the viewers to continue to see my journey with Joshua,” Whitley told AlwaysAList.com. “I hope that ‘Raising Whitley’ continues to inspire people and encourage adoption with other would-be parents. I also want other single parents to realize that they too can create a village of friends like I did and have a great support system.”
“Raising Whitley” premiered as a 30-minute series on April 20, 2013. The first eight episodes were so successful that OWN ordered 10 more and increased the show to a full hour.
In addition to starring in on her own reality series, the Shaker Heights, Ohio-bred talent also will also star on an ABC Family comedy called “Young and Hungry” slated to premiere later this year.
