On camera, David and Tamela Mann are best known as The Browns—two characters created by Tyler Perry in a touring play, where David plays Leroy Brown, the father of Tamela’s character Cora.
In real life, the couple is happily married with children and two of the most humble, down-to-earth people you’ll ever meet.
Last fall, the Dallas-based couple has landed a deal with BET for a new reality series, “It’s A Mann’s World” that will chronicle the lives of them, their five children, eight grandchildren and their extended relatives who all live nearby.
David and Tamela, former members of Kirk Franklin & The Family, are ready to let viewers really see the folks behind their popular characters of the film and TV series “Meet The Browns.”
“We’re excited to announce our new television home is with BET,” said David and Tamela said in a joint statement. “BET is a great fit for the Mann brand and the perfect place for this new show. There’ll also be some news and reveals we’re saving to share on the show – you’ll have to tune in to find out what’s in store.”
Premiering on Wednesday, January 14, “It’s A Mann’s World” allows viewers to see the inner workings of this family-ran business.
Tamela, still having enormous success from her record-breaking single ‘Take Me To The King’ and the follow-up smash, ‘I Can Only Imagine,’ is managed by her husband of 26 years and supported on the road by two of their children, David Jr. and Tia.
The show also introduces viewers to Porcia, David’s daughter before marrying Tamela, and Tiffany, the niece the couple raised as though she was their child. Believe it or not, David and Tamela also have eight grandchildren.
Though David and Tamela are devout Christians, “It’s A Mann’s World” is not preachy by any means. Instead, the show depicts a fun-loving, balanced family that is centered in Godly-principles and coping with real life obstacles.
