Lots of people want a SUV but folks just can’t afford the gas prices and the complications of parking them in cramped cities.
Volkswagen may have found the solution to that problem, as they enter into the growing small SUV market with their Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 4Motion.
A trendy and sophisticated SUV, the Tiguan features European design while embodying the fundamental elements of the VW brand.
Many small-size SUVs skim on accents and bells and whistles to make them more economical. Not the Tiguan! The vehicle incorporates modern luxuries into its design, making the price point a little higher many SUVs in its class.
The Tiguan has juice! It doesn’t lag like many smaller SUVs, powered by VW’s 200-hp 2.0L turbo FSI engine mated with a six-speed automatic transmission along with a choice of front-wheel drive or 4Motion all-wheel drive.
It has a smooth, quiet drive. The Tiguan glides on the highway and is perfect the hustle and bustle of inner city movement. The gas consumption was okay, only earning 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
The vehicle has standard safety equipment including six airbags, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control. I love the Tiguan’s trip computer, which is now standard on all models.
You get plenty of space in the Tiguan – as much as you expect for a small SUV – and I was comfortably able to get four friends (one very plus-sized one) in the vehicle comfortable. There was plenty of trunk space for cargo as well.
While I was testing my 2012 model of the VW Tiguan I drove up to a dinner and much to my surprise, my friend had just purchased a new one. He said it was refreshing to downsize from the larger SUV he previously owned and he and his Tiguan were having a love affair.
