Paying Forward: Ford Works With HBCUs to Build Better Communities

Ford

Automotive brand Ford has partnered with the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) community to give college students the opportunity to earn $75,000 in scholarships and give back to their communities.

Ford is offering any students who are attending an HBCU the opportunity to enter the Ford Community Challenge Competition. The program’s theme is “Building Sustainable Communities.”

Ford has partnered with both the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” and the “Rickey Smiley Morning Show” on the campaign that allows HBCU students the chance to design community projects that address the pressing local needs in one of four areas – Mobility, Alternative Energy, Sustainability/Water and Systematic Approaches to Meeting Community Needs.

Ford will award scholarships to the student team, and also community grants will be awarded to nonprofits to support implementation of the winning projects.

The four teams with the best ideas will be flown to Ford World Headquarters in December to present their ideas for final judging.

Ford’s judges for the competition include radio veteran Joyner, HBCU graduate Mark Douglas, Jim Vellas, Robert Brown and Ellen Hughes-Cromwick.
