So I had to take a road trip to New York City from Washington, DC; but the catch was I wanted a vehicle that could move around the city but could be easy to park when need be. Most folks are scared of driving in the Big Apple – clearly I’m not – but the real challenge in the concrete jungle is navigating through the complicated parking regulations and then actually finding a spot you can fit in.
Small-sized sedan Nissan Sentra (SL trim) is the car I put to the test for my voyage up 95 to the New Jersey Parkway and into NYC.
To be a compact car, the Sentra offered a lot of space. Up front, the back seat and trunk—you get a surprisingly amount of space for its class size.
The car is fuel-efficient. There wasn’t a lot of stopping and gassing up on this trip because the Sentra earned me 27 miles per gallon in the city, and an impressive 36 miles per gallon on that highway. Suffice to say I left Washington, DC with a full tank and arrived in New York with more than a quarter tank to go.
There cars infotainment features and tech offerings were solid. It gave me everything I needed, especially the Bluetooth capabilities for hands-free phone calls and playing the music from my iPhone.
The drive was adequate for a compact car. Its 1.8 L 4-cylinder engine is good once it gets going, but the acceleration is a bit slow.
As practical as the car is, the Sentra isn’t just a bland compact car. Nissan has added some accents to the exterior design to give it a finish that makes it look more expensive than its price-range.
The vehicle had a high-resolution driver information screen in my SL model and offered safety technologies like automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and NissanConnect emergency telematics.
Overall, the Nissan Sentra SL was effective for this city to city road trip and I even used its adaptive cruise control on the highway.
Spin Control: With an average price of $24,000 for the SL trim, the Nissan Sentra is precise practicality and you’re certainly getting your money’s worth.
