Former R&B superstar Montell Jordan has released a new book, “Becoming Unfamous: The Journey of ‘How We Do It’ To How He Do It.”

The “This Is How We Do It” singer stepped away from his career in mainstream music in 2010 to become a Worship Minister at Victory World Church in Norcross, Georgia.

Jordan, who made his debut in the music business in 1995, has released seven R&B albums—five of which were released on Def Jam’s R&B imprint Def Soul, one on Koch Entertainment and his last one via Universal Records’ independent branch Fontana.

The Los Angeles-bred performer has been candid in previous interviews about how his promiscuous lifestyle and extramarital affairs, among other things that he felt should have killed him, is why he decided to walk away from his R&B music career.Montell Jordan book

Jordan, who was featured in a recent episode of TV One’s hit documentary series “Unsung,” grew up a “church kid” and was drawn back into ministry once he decided to depart the mainstream music business.

“I moved completely away from R&B for a season because I did not transition from R&B to Gospel, but from the music business into ministry. My journey transcended genre change as I embraced full-time ministry,” he expressed to

After five years of solely being dedicated to ministry and not performing his hit songs like “Get It On Tonite,” “Somethin’ 4 da Honeyz” and “You Must Have Been;” Jordan decided to start taking select performance dates again.

“In 2015, I returned to performing some of my hit songs to have access to longtime Montell fans in efforts to reintroduce them to the new Montell,” he explained.

The 47-year-old singer/songwriter/producer said that he looks at the music industry differently now that he’s committed his life to ministry.

“Music doesn’t define me; I define music. Music doesn’t make me; I make music. I now know who I am because I know whose I am,” he acknowledged.

In “Becoming Unfamous,” Jordan talks about the journey that got him to his new revelation about his work in the music business. Available now as an eBook, the entertainer does everything from share personal accounts of his rollercoaster ride through fame; as well as his “how to” secrets on maintaining success in a cutthroat industry. He also shows readers how to gain clarity about their purpose and guidance with their own walk in faith.

“‘Becoming Unfamous’ is the story of success to significance, and was written to bridge the gap between my previous life in music and my present life in ministry,” Jordan concluded in his description of the tome.
