The Envelope Please: Stellar Gospel Awards Announce Hosts & Nominees

Gospel music will be celebrated when the 28th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards are held on Jan. 19, 2013 at the Grand Ole Opry House Theater in Nashville, Tenn.

This year the show will be hosted by the genre’s top two music acts, Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary.

The sister duo, made up of Erica and Tina Campbell, also top the list of Stellar Award nominees, having landed nine nominations for their pseudo-greatest hits collection, “Go Get It.” Mary Mary secured nominations in the following categories: “Song of the Year,” “Contemporary Group/Duo of the Year,” “Contemporary CD of the Year,” “Producer of the Year,” “Music Video of the Year” and “Recorded Music Packaging of the Year.”

Pastor Charles Jenkins

Chicago-based Pastor Charles Jenkins landed eight nominations with his debut CD, “The Best Of Both Worlds.” In addition to nods for “Best New Artist” and “Artist of the Year,” Jenkins also received a nomination for “Song of the Year” for his number one single, “Awesome.”

Gospel superstars Marvin Sapp and Fred Hammond both earned six Stellar Awards nominations.  The two former members of the gospel group Commissioned were both nominated in the categories of “Male Vocalist of the Year” and “CD of the Year.”

Gospel music legend Andrae Crouch secured five nominations for his last CD, “The Journey.” The CD features the Sunday morning anthem, “Let The Church Say Amen” led by Pastor Marvin Winans.

Former Men of Standard member Isaac Carree also earned five Stellar nods for his solo debut, “Uncommon Me.” Carree’s CD features his chart-topping single, “In The Middle.”

The telecast will begin airing in syndication after it tapes on Jan. 19 through March 3. The award show will also air on the GMC network. Check local TV listings for exact dates and times.
