Business Boom: Kirk Franklin Rebrands Brunch & Expands Game Show

Gospel superstar Kirk Franklin’s empire continues to grow.

The Grammy-winning has partnered with House of Blues to revamp its brunch with a new menu and a mix of traditional and contemporary Gospel music.

To culminate the 20th anniversary of the House of Blues brunch, Franklin and the entertainment venue will kick off the rebranded brunch on Mother’s Day weekend. The rebooted brunch will add Franklin’s name to it and the “Smile” singer will actually host the premiere of the brunch on May 12.

“They thought it would be great for me to come in and create content and curate new ideas,” said Franklin, who began working with House of Blues on the project a year ago. “We’ll be incorporating my music and images and creating video presentations. Musically, we are ramping up the talent and will be keeping the traditional gospel that people love while also introducing them to some of the new stars and new sounds in the genre.”

There are more than a dozen House of Blues venues nationwide. House of Blues is owned by Live Nation, the company that Franklin partnered with for his King’s Men Tour last fall.

In addition to the brunch, Franklin revealed he will also develop two House of Blues tours a year that will showcase contemporary and on-the-verge Gospel artists.

“It will be a sort of ‘Kirk Franklin presents the next generation of Gospel,’ ” he says.”Whoever is coming up, whether it’s hip-hop Gospel with someone like Lecrae or a [Kierra] Sheard or just younger artists that I think are going to have a big impact.”

In other news, the 43-year-old entertainer is the new musical co-host of GSN’s “The American Bible Challenge.”

A few weeks into the game show’s premiere, the highly-rated series is “number one across the board for African-American viewers,” a rep for the show told AlwaysAList.com.

Franklin was added to the Jeff Foxworthy-hosted show to expand its diversity audience. Season one of “The American Bible Challenge” scored 1.7 million viewers, a record for GSN.

The show is also now teaming up with the popular Bible App by YouVersion to provide polling data, study and reference for teams for the show’s second season.
