He’s Able: Kirk Franklin Captures “20 Years In One Night” (Extended Dates)

Kirk Franklin

Gospel superstar Kirk Franklin is selling out shows all over the country on his “20 Years in One Night” Tour.

The concert celebrates Franklin’s illustrious two-decade career in the music business and showcases new music from his latest release, “Losing My Religion.”

For nearly two hours and 30 minutes, the 10-time Grammy winner also revisits classics he’s created for God’s Property, Tamela Mann, The Family and others.

Franklin’s progressive retrospective births new life into oldies-but-goodies, while capturing the journey of an innovator who has broken down barriers, faced heavy scrutiny and built bridges with the mainstream community along the way.TYION

The Fort Worth, Texas-bred talent has effectively found a way to bring new-age to nostalgia on his “20 Years in One Night” Tour, while cleverly mixing in some Kendrick Lamar and Tupac to shape his musical narrative.

A self-contained talent—Franklin is a songwriter, producer, musician and arranger—the pint-sized superstar surprises concertgoers at his “20 Years in One Night” Tour by actually singing more in this show. (His moments singing are good too – precise and at times, intricate!)

Backed by an all-star ensemble of singers, the 46-year-old entertainer is joined on this journey by returning favorites Nikki Ross, Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper and Charmaine Swimpson Broome.  This trio of ladies have been recording and touring with Franklin for nearly a decade.

New to Franklin’s roster of support vocalists are sought-after session singer/songwriter Kenyon Dixon (Tyrese/Usher); former God’s Property member Deonis Cook, a member of the group TEN from NBC’s “The Sing-Off”; and accomplished vocalist/songwriter Cheryl Fortune, formerly of James Fortune & FIYA fame.

The “20 Years in One Night” Tour kicked off March 15, 2016 in Miami and had only played 10 shows when the show’s promoter Live Nation announced on Monday that it is adding a second leg to the run.

Having already played top markets like Washington, DC, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Detroit; instead of concluding on April 16 in Oakland, the show will resume for additional dates starting June 3 in Augusta, GA. The extended jaunt of Franklin’s tour will now play 12 additional dates and is slated to wrap June 19 in Baltimore.

Wear comfortable shoes if you catch the “20 Years in One Night” Tour in a city near you, as you spend at least 80% of the show on your feet.

Once Franklin, his singers and the stellar musicians that make up his band take their last bow, you’re reminded of why his body of work has landed him 40 Stellar Awards and 16 GMA Dove Awards over the last 20 years.
