Life Goes On: Tupac Shakur To Live On Broadway

A production called “Holler If Ya Hear Me” featuring music by the late rapper Tupac Shakur is currently being workshopped with plans to make a Broadway debut later this year to run during the 2013-2014 stage season.

A developmental workshop is currently underway in the New York City for the production and is being directed by Kenny Leon (“Fences”/”A Raisin in the Sun”/”The Mountaintop”).

No firm dates have been established for the in-development show, which is described as a non-biographical original story set in the present day. “Holler If Ya Hear Me” centers on the inner-city streets of a Midwestern industrial city and chronicles the challenges faced by two childhood friends and their extended families.

The story is inspired by and unfolds to the music of Shakur, the influential rapper who died in 1996 and has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.

Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur, is one of the lead producers on the project.
