Steve Harvey loves the kids! And I’m not talking about his four biological and three step-children with wife Majorie. I’m talking about the 500-plus students to date that have benefited from the work he’s doing with Disney Dreamers Academy—an education and community enrichment program aimed at helping students become visionaries seeking a life beyond their circumstances and that exceeds their imagination.
From empowerment sessions, motivational seminars, character building and of course a little fun in the land of Mickey Mouse, 100 students flew to Disney with their parents to get pumped and prepared for their future.
Gospel great Yolanda Adams; Essence editor Mikki Taylor; E! News host Terrence J; HLN anchor Rocsi Diaz; actor Lamman Rucker; film and TV producer Will Packer; Celebrity Chef Jeff Henderson and some other Disney Dreamers Academy staples work alongside and Steve’s twin daughters Brandi and Karli and his son Wynton to mentor and inspire the students.
During a press conference to discuss the conference, Adams spoke the process students go through to become a Dreamer.
“When selecting the Dreamers, we look for honesty. We want to see how they’ve dealt with situations in their lives,” the Grammy winner told us.
Essence magazine is a major partner of Disney Dreamers Academy and their president, Michelle Ebanks was also on hand to give a keynote address. “Live! with Kelly and Michael” host Michael Strahan delivered a keynote address as well during the weekend.
Harvey said during the press conference—after sharing a story about how Adams has challenged him to dream bigger dreams despite his current success—that the goal for Disney Dreamers Academy is to make an impression on the kids that will be a lasting one.
“We want to grab these kids and help them believe they can do whatever they want before the world tries to tell them they can’t,” the talks show and game show host expressed.
