Stylist to the stars June Ambrose made her first appearance at the Essence Music Festival with Coca-Cola for their first Style Refresh. The Coca-Cola sponsored contest offered two festival attendees the opportunity to receive a shopping and style experience with the star of VH1’s “Styled By June” at Saks Fifth Avenue.
While Coca-Cola products (and champagne) flowed in an initiate talk show set-up at Saks, Ambrose fielded questions from attendees while her content winners shared their personal style stories. While discussing her own style, Ambrose, who was also the stylist of record on last fall’s U.S. debut of the “The X-Factor,” confessed that her love of high heel shoes has caused her some serious foot problems!
“I’m never going to lie to you,” Ambrose confessed to the room, “I have a podiatrist on speed dial! You know foot care is like hair care. You have to make those appointments. You have to have your calluses dealt with; also strengthen your body because in order to wear heels your body has to be physically inclined. It’s a sport, it truly is! What happens is, when you get older the muscles in the knees start to deteriorate.”
“People get knee replacements, but it’s just not going to change,” she continued. “It’s a part of life. But if you start to strengthen you’re body, there are tricks you can do. And that’s what I focus on with my trainer. So talk to you’re trainer and put your podiatrist on speed dial if you want to live in a heel. And have a pair of flats in your bag, don’t have any shame.”
