The opening night of the auto show rolled out in grand fashion with its star attraction, the 2017 Nissan Rogue.
The compact crossover – Nissan’s second best-selling model in the United States – gets super-sized enhancements and stellar upgrades for its 2017 model. The changes include exterior and interior styling, updated and upgraded safety options and new convenience features.
And if saving money on gas or climate preservation is your thing, you’re in luck because for the first time there’s a Rogue Hybrid edition as well.
José Muñoz, executive vice president of Nissan Motor Co. and chairman of Nissan North America, was there to unveil the new Rogue at the hip covered-outdoor venue 1111 Lincoln Road where the swanky launch night party took place.
“Following three straight years of consecutive growth, we project Rogue will approach 300,000 units in the current fiscal year, nearly doubling sales since 2012. For 2017, we’re turning up the heat on the competition with enhancements designed to keep Rogue at the top of compact SUV buyers’ wish lists,” he told the crowd.
Nissan has great expectations for its new Rogue, predicting that it will out-sell its current top-selling vehicle, the Nissan Altima. The Altima sells huge numbers with Nissan thanks in part to a huge African-American female consumer base—it’s the number-one selling vehicle with African-American woman!
But the Rogue wasn’t the only highlight of the Miami International Auto Show. The Nissan Sentra brought some spice of its own to the Miami heat. On the first morning of the auto show, Nissan introduced the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo during an announcement at its expo booth.
The Sentra is one of Nissan’s more practical offerings; however some of the elite group of automotive enthusiasts seemed elated by the idea that the Japanese automaker added a turbocharger on the Sentra.
Made in Mexico, the new incarnation of the Sentra will be available in both an automatic and six-speed manual transmission. The price has not been disclosed yet, but the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo will be available at dealers starting in October.
WHERE WE STAYED: It was eco-friendly paradise at the 1 Hotel South Beach. This chic, tranquil five-star establishment is the perfect balance of comfort and consciousness. Previously the Gansevoort—a nightlife and day-party hot spot best known for its rooftop pool and shark tank—the 1 Hotel is all about making environmentally-friendly elements sophisticated and fabulous.
With dominant colors of white and light-colored wood (the property’s wood used was previously killed by beetles), the 426-room hotel offers four swimming pools—yep, even that that rooftop one—and great access to the beach. The 1 Hotel has a filtered drinking water system in all rooms, uses no plastic bottles on its property, and employs a farm-to-table restaurant style. There are live plants, cut flowers and use of live grass throughout the property and even a restaurant where you can design plant-based gift sets.
