On Nov. 20, 2013, AlwaysAList.com reported that there were already talks of a third installment of “The Best Man” franchise because of the success of “Best Man Holiday.”
Now, we can confirm that a date has been set for the franchise trilogy, “The Best Man Wedding.” Universal Pictures has announced that the forthcoming feature starring the original cast members Morris Chestnut, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Harold Perrineau, and Melissa De Sousa is slated for April 15, 2016.
Spoiler alert: its unlikely that Monica Calhoun who died in last year’s sequel will be apart of the new feature.
Malcolm D. Lee will direct the third series of the film and is already working on the script.
In the new film, the group of friends get together for the most unexpected nuptials.
“Best Man Holiday” opened with $30 million in opening weekend. The R-rated film made $71.6 million at the box office, and another $18.4 in DVD/Blu-ray sales.
The blockbuster sequel was released 14 years after its original and its $30 million opening weekend was nearly the total domestic box office of the original film. (“The Best Man” did go on to make a tremendous amount of money from DVD sales despite its moderate box office gross.)
