As the 86th Annual Academy Awards ceremony approaches, Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron revealed the complete lineup of stars who will present and multiple actors of color have been announced.
“We are very excited that the Hollywood community will be turning out in force for Sunday’s Oscar ceremony,” said Zadan and Meron. “We sought to include a tremendous diversity of stars to represent not only this year’s nominees, but the legacy of the motion picture business as well.”
Pharrell Williams will perform his Academy Award-nominated song ‘Happy’ during this year’s ceremony as well.
Of the Black-themed films of 2013, “12 Years a Slave” scored nine nominations including the top categories of Best Picture, Best Director (Steve McQueen), Best Actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong’o).
Newcomer Barkhad Abdi is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his breakout role opposite Tom Hanks in the film “Captain Phillips.”
In the Best Documentary category, “20 Feet From Stardom” – a touted film about the role of background singers in music history – is also nominated.
The 2014 Academy Awards will take play at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on March 2 and air live on ABC. The pre-show begins 7pm EST.
