Universal Pictures has found an actor to play James Brown in its upcoming biopic.
The 31-year-old “42” star Chadwick Boseman, who played the legendary Brooklyn Dodgers second baseman Jackie Robinson in the recent blockbuster, has been cast as Brown.
The movie about The Godfather of Soul in the film directed by Tate Taylor (“The Help”).
The story chronicles a young boy’s rise from extreme poverty and violence to become a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ultimately, Brown would become one of the most influential black artists in music history. His career spanned over six decades and his was an intricate force during the Civil Rights movement.
Imagine Entertainment‘s Brian Grazer is producing the project and started the pre-production when Brown was still alive. The singer died on Dec. 25, 2006 at age 73. Brown was finally buried on March 10, 2007 after a dispute between his children and his widow.
