Hip-hop veteran Ja Rule has been a whirlwind promotional tour promoting his new movie, “I’m in Love With a Church Girl.”
The rap star confessed in a recent interview with the New York Daily News that he recently found Christ as a result of being involved with the film.
“I actually just got saved,” he confessed to the paper.
The “Church Girl,” which has Rule starring opposite Adrienne Bailon, the 37-year-old rapper plays the character Miles Montego, a retired criminal trying to make good with God at the encouragement of his girlfriend, Vanessa Leon.
“When I read the script, I saw the similarities between myself and Miles, and I really felt that this might be a good vehicle for me,” the rapper explained.
The New York-bred rap star, who has been on his own road to redemption after serving a prison sentence for attempted illegal gun possession and tax evasion, hopes the film reaches a crowd outside of the church.
“That’s the beauty of the movie, we’re going to touch people who do not come from a church background, and it brings a certain level of cool to it,” he said.
Despite him giving his life to Christ, Rule isn’t abandoning his hip-hop roots. With a tour with “R&B Divas LA” star Lil’ Mo slated to start next month, the rapper said don’t expect him to start recording sacred sounds.
“I don’t want people to get confused,” he joked. “I’m not going to be putting out a gospel album.”
“I’m in Love With a Church Girl” is in theaters today.
