The new film “Jean of the Joneses” has been accepted into the South by Southwest Festival Film Festival in Austin, Texas as part of the Narrative Spotlight program.
The Stella Meghie film stars Taylor Paige (“Hit The Floor”), Sherri Shepherd (“Ride Along 2”), Erica Ash (“Survivor’s Remorse”), Gloria Reuben (“ER”), Michelle Hurst (“Orange Is the New Black”), Mamoudou Athie (“The Get Down”) and Francois Arnaud (“Blindspot”).
“Jean of the Joneses”—based off a script by Meghie that was one of 10 selected to participate in Tribeca Film Festival’s 2014 Tribeca All Access Program—tells the story of 25-year-old Jean and her multi-generational Jamaican-American family, and the secrets they discover after an estranged grandfather dies.
The movie was shot in Toronto and New York City last fall. While the film will be distributed by Search Engine Films in Canada, the buzzed-about movie is hoping to land a top film studio to distribute it for the United States and other territories during the film festival.
The creator Meghie makes her feature film directorial debut with “Jean of the Joneses.” She also has a blind script deal with Warner Bros. and a comedy pilot optioned by BET Networks.
