There’s a movie about President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s romance headed to the big screen.
Titled “Southside With You,” the love story will chronicle the summer 1989 afternoon when the future President of the United States of America wooed his future First Lady on an epic first date across Chicago’s South Side.
According to Deadline, “The Have and Have Nots” star Tika Sumpter has been cast as Michelle.
A nationwide search is underway to cast an actor who can play the 44th President of the United States.
As the story goes, Barack had to convince Michelle to go on a date with him. At the time, he was a first-year Harvard Law student, took a summer job as an associate at Chicago law firm Sidley Austin where he fell for lawyer Michelle Robinson, his younger boss.
“Southside With You” spans the day she agreed to go out with him when the two visited the Art Institute, took a long walk, and caught a showing of Spike Lee’s new film, Do The Right Thing. They were married in 1992.
Sumpter and Richard Tanne (“The Roman,” “Worst Friends”) are producing the project, which is being developed from Tanne’s own screenplay. Stephanie Allain (“Beyond The Lights,” “Hustle & Flow”) is also a producer on the film.
Production on “Southside With You” starts in July on location in Chicago.
