“Best Man Holiday” has made over $50 million at the box office since it opened on Nov. 15 and now Universal Pictures is already interested in a third installment of the “Best Man” franchise.
News broke via Deadline.com that Malcolm D. Lee has already been approached to write, direct and produce another new installment of the franchise that made its debut in 1999.
The blockbuster sequel was released 14 years after its original and its $30 million opening weekend was nearly the total domestic box office of the original film. (“The Best Man” did go on to make a tremendous amount of money from DVD sales despite its moderate box office gross.)
“Best Man Holiday” stars Morris Chestnut, Monica Calhoun, Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Terrence Howard, Melissa De Sousa, Nia Long, Harold Perrineau, and Regina Hall. No word on if the entire ensemble has been locked down contractually for a third installment, however it would be unlikely that Calhoun would return following her character turn in the recent film.
