“The Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin will start her 2014 in the studio recording a new CD of standards and her favorite songs.

Helmed by music impresario Clive Davis and including production by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Don Was, Franklin revealed in an interview with Billboard that the album will include songs like Barbra Streisand’s ‘People’ and Donna Summer’s ‘Last Dance.’
“I’m even thinking of (Destiny’s Child’s) ‘Bootylicious’,” Franklin said with a laugh.

“It’s just re-working some things that were very, very good and certainly chart-worthy and sold a lot of records,” shared Franklin, who hopes to have the album out during the second quarter of 2014 on RCA Records. “They’re records that, musically, I respected and that I liked a lot and that I would love to have one go-’round with. I aspire for musical excellence. I have very high standards where music is concerned, and I’m looking for something I haven’t done, something that you haven’t heard and something just absolutely smashing.”

The CD would be the 71-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s first release since her 2011 studio album, “Aretha: A Woman Falling Out Of Love.”

Earlier this year, Franklin canceled a number of concert dates due to an unspecified medical condition. Now, the Detroit-based singer says she’s “feeling well and ready to go.”

Franklin is also ready to launch her own label, seeking a distribution deal for her Aretha’s Records label so that she can release albums by her son Kecalf, a Christian rapper, and grandson Jordan, a pop singer.
