Darlene Love: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Recovering From Heart Attack

Darlene Love

Vocal powerhouse Darlene Love is recovering from a heart attack, her agent has Eric Stevens confirmed to The Associated Press.

The 71-year-old singer, known as one of the best background singers of all time, experienced some discomfort prior to a performance over the weekend in Asbury Park, N.J.  A day later the pain continued to grow so Love went to a hospital and learned she suffered a mild heart attack.

“Expect a hundred and ten percent recovery as early as next week,” said Stevens.  Love is currently resting at home and has not canceled any of her future concert dates.

On March 14, 2011, Love was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  The Hawthorne, Calif.-bred singer has worked with a long list of music greats including Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick, Sam Cooke, The Beach Boys, Tom Jones and Cher, among others.  She is also featured on many of Phil Spector’s hits in the 1960’s, in acts like the Crystals and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans.

In addition to starring in several Broadway shows and being featured in all four “Lethal Weapon” movies, Love has also performed her hit holiday song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on the “Late Show with David Letterman” every year on the show’s last episode before Christmas since 1986.
