The Dream (real name: Terius Nash) has been appointed executive vice president of A&R at Def Jam.
According to a statement released by Def Jam, the singer/producer/songwriter “will have a comprehensive, broad reaching A&R portfolio.”
The Dream’s responsibilities at Def Jam will include overseeing the progress of current and new artist projects, signing new talent to the label and working in a production capacity with artists on the Def Jam roster. He will work closely with Barry Weiss, chairman and CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown; Karen Kwak, head of A&R at Island Def Jam Music Group; Joie Manda, president of Def Jam Recordings; and Steve Bartels, president and COO of Island Def Jam Music Group.
“Music means more than just a download, it’s life to the culture and also the people who listen,” said The Dream. “This is a new exciting yet critical time for music — ‘You Meet Change with Change!’”
The Rockingham, North Carolina-bred talent has also released three CD’s of his own — 2007’s “Love Hate,” 2009’s “Love vs. Money,” and 2010’s “Love King.”
The Dream is a two-time divorcee, having been married to both R&B singer Nivea and singer/actress Christina Milian. The 35-year-old entertainer has children with both women.
