Grammy-winning Rock icon Tina Turner is giving up her U.S. Citizenship.

The 73-year-old “What’s Love Got to Do With It” singer is close to being granted citizenship in Switzerland.

Turner, whose real name is Anna Mae Bullock, has lived in the country since 1995. She resides in Kuesnacht, a suburb of Zurich.

According to a Swiss newspaper Zuerichsee-Zeitung, Turner has passed the civics test and interview that stands between her and a Swiss passport.

A rep for the singer told Zuerichsee-Zeitung that Turner wanted to “clarify her situation,” according to the Associated Press. “Tina Turner will therefore also give back her U.S. citizenship,” her rep explained.

The Nutbush, Tenn.-bred vocalist moved to Switzerland with her longtime manager and romantic partner, German record executive Erwin Back.

The citizenship change is not yet official. Swiss authorities still need to approve the decision before Turner will be granted her red passport.
