Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson’s week just got a little worse.
The troubled NFL star was dropped on Wednesday by the coconut water brand Zico as a celebrity spokesperson.
The beverage company had just signed their deal with Johnson on July 25, the company confirmed to ESPN.com.
“The Zico brand is about supporting naturally powered athletes. We partnered with Chad Johnson because of our great respect for what he has achieved on the playing field. However, in light of recent events involving Mr. Johnson, we have decided to terminate our relationship. The values we espouse, through our employees, our customers and our brand, are central to our mission. We have taken this proactive step to demonstrate just how important those values are,” their statement read.
The company did not disclose whether their contract with wide receiver had a morality clause that gave them the right to terminate his contract immediately or whether he will be compensated despite them distancing themselves from him.
Johnson was arrested Saturday for domestic violence after allegedly head-butting his wife, reality star Evelyn Lozada. According to the police report, the couple had an argument over a receipt for condoms that Lozada found in their car.
Less than 24 hours after his arrest, Johnson was cut by the Miami Dolphins.
Lozada, who stars on VH1’s “Basketball Wives,” filed for divorce on Tuesday. Johnson released a statement the same day declaring that he “loved his wife to death” and apologizing to his supporters.
The “Dancing with the Stars” finalist, who said in an interview that he would become an adult film star if he was cut by the Miami Dolphins just weeks ago, is still currently has his lucrative endorsement contract with Reebok.
