DJ Jazzy Jeff was the latest celebrity to die as a result of a cyber death hoax.
The Philadelphia-bred deejay, who became famous as one-half of the rap duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince alongside Will Smith, was a trending topic on several social media platforms on Tuesday as news of his fake death spread online.
The 47-year-old entertainer (real name: Jeffrey Townes) took to his official Twitter page and made light of the situation.
“Hey Y’all… FYI…I’m not dead anymore,” he posted via @djjazzyjeff215.
Jeff, who was a recurring cast member on Smith’s NBC sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” is not the first star from the show to become victim of a bogus online death rumor.
Both two-time Oscar nominee Smith and co-star Alfonso Ribeiro have both been killed off by internet users in the last year alone.
