Dr. Charles Hayes, senior pastor of the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer in Chicago, Illi. died on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
In addition to leading his ministry at that the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer for more than 54 years, Father Hayes – as he was affectionately known – recorded more than 30 albums during his career.
He and his award-winning choir, the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer Choir, also known as The Warriors, are best known for gospel hits like ‘Jesus Can Work It Out,’ ‘Step Back, Let God Do It,’ ‘All In His Hands’ and ‘Jesus Is Mine.’
Two of Dr. Hayes’ albums, including 2005’s “The Remix” were certified gold after selling more than 500,000 units. “The Remix” included a revamped version of the choir’s hit, ‘Jesus Can Work It Out’ that was titled ‘Work It Out.’ The song won the choir two Stellar Awards and exploded as a crossover hit at R&B radio as well.
Dr. Hayes and his choir often toured Europe, headlining in places like the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy and the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Montreaux, Switzerland; in addition to in Austria, France, Spain, Portugal and Madrid.
The official cause of Dr. Hayes’ has not been released, but sources close to the church tell AlwaysAList.com that he had been ill for some time now.
