“A Different World” star Jasmine Guy is embroiled in a legal battle with her ex-husband, Terrence Mitchell Duckett over unpaid child support.
After nearly ten years of marriage, the couple divorced in 2008. Duckett was ordered by a judge to pay $1,469 monthly in child support for the couple’s daughter, Imani, 13.
According to court documents, Guy claims that her husband has not lived up to his fatherly financial duties and stopped making payments in May 2010. He now owes a total of $39,663 in back support.
The 50-year-old actress wants a judge to hold Duckett in contempt of court so that she can collect the past due child support by garnishing his wages, going after his assets and/or having him put in jail.
The two were supposed to appear in court last month, but the date was canceled because Guy has been unable to serve her ex-hubby with papers.
She’s hoping to have him served soon so that the court hearing can be rescheduled.
“Both parents have the financial responsibility of rearing a child. Jasmine has always met and will continue to meet her financial responsibility. She, however unfortunately, finds herself in the same position as are many single mothers in this country — she must enforce her child’s right to benefit from the financial assets of both parents,” her lawyer, Lisa West, told TMZ.
