Kerry Washington has confirmed she is pregnant.
The Emmy-nominated star of “Scandal” is expecting her second child with her husband, former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha.
The 39-year-old actress acknowledged her pregnancy on the red carpet of the Met Gala in New York City on Monday evening. Speculation that Washington was pregnant began weeks ago after several red carpet appearances that seemed to indicate there was a baby bump.
Married to Asomugha since June 2013, Washington is notoriously private about sharing her personal life with the media. Her unwillingness to discuss her marriage and the couple rarely posing for pictures together have made tabloids and blog sites run numerous stories about the marriage being over and how divorce was imminent. The actress never bothers to even acknowledge the false reports.
In 2014, Washington gave birth to the couple’s first child, daughter Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha on April 21. She didn’t reveal the baby had been born until two weeks later.
Season four of ABC’s hit drama “Scandal” was complicated by Washington’s pregnancy, as the show’s executive producer/writer Shonda Rhimes had to work to hide her baby bump behind objects and large clothing.
Details about how far along the star of HBO’s “Confirmation” is has not been disclosed.
