In the interview, the 59-year-old network owner speaks about her disdain for the n-word.
“You cannot be my friend and use that word around me. It shows my age, but I feel strongly about it. … I always think of the millions of people who heard that as their last word as they were hanging from a tree,” said Winfrey.
Lee Daniels, also interviewed for the piece, admitted that he regularly used the n-word until Winfrey had a heart-to-heart with him.
It’s no secret that despite Winfrey having recently become fond of hip-hop stars like Jay-Z, LL Cool J and 50 Cent, she has been very critical of rap music in the past because of the willingness of rappers to use the n-word. Winfrey believes the young generation is completely unaware of the civil rights movement.
“They don’t know diddly-squat. Diddly-squat,” she concluded.
