Comedy legend Joan Rivers is always cracking jokes. But the 79-year-old host of E! Entertainment’s “Fashion Police” got serious on Twitter last Friday after watching pop star Rihanna’s interview with Oprah Winfrey on “Next Chapter” for the OWN Network.
Rivers was not amused when the 24-year-old entertainer confessed to Winfrey that she still had feelings for her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown despite their highly publicized domestic dispute in 2008.
“Rihanna confessed to Oprah Winfrey that she still loves Chris Brown. Idiot! Now it’s MY turn to slap her,” Rivers tweeted via her official Twitter account @Joan_Rivers.
Rihanna shot back via her Twitter account @Rihanna: “@Joan_Rivers wow u really do get slow when you’re old huh?”
The “Good Girl Gone Bad” singer deleted that Twitter post, but later posted “CONTROL YOUR SPEECH!” with a photo of a Bible scripture from her Instagram page. Rihanna highlighted two passages from Proverbs 15:4: “A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life…For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things…If your mouth is out of control, other areas of your life will also be out of control.”
Rihanna also posted one final reply: “Slap on some diapers.”
Rivers countered: “Honey, @Rihanna, everyone knows: If he hit you once, he’ll hit you again. Read the statistics. PS – Love to have you on Fashion Police!”
Coincidentally, after Ciara criticized one of Rihanna’s looks during a Feb. 2011 appearance on “Fashion Police,” the two got into a heated Twitter spat. The made up shortly thereafter.
