Truth Awards: Sheryl Lee Ralph, Karamo Brown, Rolonda Watts, B.Slade, Frenchie Davis & More Attend

Better Brothers Los Angeles (BBLA)—an organization founded by Scott Hamilton and Vincent Holmes to provide spaces for members of the Black LGBTQ community to network, socialize and be better at life, love and community—recently presented their 2nd Annual Truth Awards Gala and Dinner.

Held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Los Angeles, the Truth Awards celebrated self-identifying African American members of the LGBTQ community, whose accomplishments have positively impacted the perception of Black LGBTQ representations.

BBLAThis year’s ceremony was hosted by Karamo Brown of TV One’s “The Next 15” and actress/voiceover queen Rolonda Watts and was presented in association with actress Sheryl Lee Ralph and her DIVA Foundation.

Activists Bishop Yvette Flunder and Aaron Walton were both given Lifetime Achievement Awards; while Rev. Jenenne Macklin, Gregory Bunn and Demetrius McCoy each received the Mentor Award. Also honored this year were Judge Darrin P. Gayles (History Maker Award), Gerard McCallum II (Business Leadership Award) and Darryn Harris (Passing The Torch Award).Diva Foundation

Singers B.Slade and Frenchie Davis performed during the ceremony and presenters included Margaret Avery (“Being Mary Jane”); Kelitta Smith (“The Bernie Mac Show”); Wendell James (“Raising Whitley”); Milan Christopher (“Love & Hip Hop Hollywood”); Darryl Stephens (“Noah’s Arc”); Miles Brock (“Love & Hip Hop Hollywood”); and media personality Nerissa Knight (KTLA-TV).
